Purpose Driven

There are two key scriptures, recounting words spoken by Jesus, which summarize the purpose of the Church.  These are referred to as The Great Commandment and the Great Commission. 

The Great Commandment (Matthew 22:36-40)
“Jesus said, ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart…soul…and mind.  This is the first and greatest commandment.  And the second is like it:  Love your neighbor as yourself.  All the Law and Prophets hang on these two commandments.’”

The Great Commission (Matthew 28:19-20)
“Jesus said, ‘Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.’”

It is from these verses that we discover several purposes that God has for the church, and for each believer’s life.  These include connecting to God and his family, growing to become like Christ, being made for ministry (serving), having a mission to share the message, and honoring God with our lives!  At Heartland, we offer a series of classes where we look into these purposes.  These include:
